About this class
This Yoga inspired MerryBody class inspires you to awaken and align your Crown Chakra (Sahasrara Chakra). This is the only Chakra that lies outside of the body, it floats just above the crown of the head. It is symbolised by a thousand petalled lotus. The yogis believe this is the doorway to the Divine. During our practice, we draw the energy up and down through Shushumna Nadi, the main energy line that runs up and down the spine. Feel it rise, see yourself blossom. MUDRA: we start our practice with the Shiva Linga mudra (energy seal), place your left palm out and up. Make a thumbs up first with your right hand and place it on top of the left palm. Bring it to your centre. What’s a mudra you ask? It’s a way we place the hands, or the body, that seals and redirects the prana (lifeforce/energy) within the body. MANTRA: we chant Om to awaken our practice. This vibration is directly linked to the Crown Chakra, the Om vibration encourages your Crown energy to awaken, cleanse and align. What’s a mantra you ask? It’s something we chant that creates vibrations within the body. The word mantra in Sanskrit (yoga language) translates to ‘sacred message or text’. They are usually repetitive sounds that can reach deep into the unconscious mind and change/clear aspects of your being and energy.
Alignment notes
If you’re moving into Revolved Downward Facing Dog, really press into the hand on the Earth and focus on pulling the belly in and up. With your Standing Side Stretches, focus on pressing the feet into the Earth, you feel yourself lengthen and feel a sense of lightness. For your Warrior 1 (Virabhadrasana 1), ensure the feet are hip distance, rather than one in front of the other (think train tracks). Square your hips by pulling your back hip forward and your front hip back. Be sure to keep your back heel down on the Earth at a 45-degree angle, really press that back foot down into the Earth and squeeze the leg tight to create a strong foundation. For Half Camel (Ardha Ustrasana) focus on peeling the shoulders open and squeezing the booty to protect the lower back. It should feel delicious.
